The 2022 Honda HR-V VS 2022 Toyota C-HR

The battle of the subcompact SUVs segment is fierce, with a spate of new and improved models competing in the ever-competitive market. Before you decide which vehicle you are going for, let us take a closer look at these four-door compact SUVs based on their specifications and briefly compare them.

General Overview

The Honda HR-V comes in four trim levels; the LX the base trim, Sport, EX and EX-L being the highest trim level. The Toyota C-HR is a subcompact crossover provided in four trim options; LE, XLE, Nightshade and Limited is the highest trim level. All of these trim levels offer Real-Time All-wheel drive with Intelligent Control System. However, in the Toyota C-HR, you only find a front-wheel drivetrain with no option for all-wheel drive.

Interior and Technological Comparison

The HR-V comes with a classy premium interior fitted with versatile seats accommodating five occupants, ample legroom, and a fair amount of entertainment features. Claimed to be the smallest vehicle in the Honda lineup, the HR-V possesses a versatile cargo area that some rivals fall short of. Inside the HR-V, you can find a Display Audio infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a 7-inch touchscreen, available in all the trims except the base trim. The base trim of the HR-V features a 5.0-inch infotainment screen.

Compared to its compact SUV rival, the Toyota CH-R's interior is somehow sub-par in terms of space. The cargo space comes very limitedly inside the CH-R, and the legroom feels underwhelming compared to the Honda HR-V. Technologies in the C-HR include keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen display. However, the HR-V has the edge over the CH-R in terms of pure interior quality. The HR-V offers ample legroom and a roomy upscale cabin.

Exterior Comparison

When it comes to the exterior outlook and the general design, the Honda HR-V outshines the CH-R. Honda's style and aesthetics are kept simple, clean and crisp. The exterior is stylish and nice-looking for a crossover of its class. This can be attributed to the aesthetic black honeycomb pattern grille and LED brake lights. It rides on 18-inch alloy sports wheels with lots of exterior features being offered.

Performance Comparison

Thanks to its frugal engine and versatile cargo, the Honda HR-V is one of the hottest subcompact SUVs on the market. The SUV comes packed with a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine, delivering 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Honda HR-V comes with a Real-Time all-wheel-drive with an Intelligent Control system, which allows the HR-V to proactively send power to the rear wheels, helping prevent traction loss during inclement weather or on the unreliable surface.

The 2021 CH-R engine remains unchanged-the 2-litre inline-4 motor making 144 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes paired with continuously variable transmission and a standard front-wheel drive drivetrain.

What About the Engine and Power?

The Toyota's 2-litre inline-4 motor making 144 horsepower outweighs the Honda's 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine with an output of 141 horsepower. However, the Honda makes up for it in fuel efficiency, Interior legroom, and exterior design.
